Pastor
Borin had also learned of God’s amazing, intervening love. Pastor
Borin had faced the infamous killing fields as a young boy of only nine.
His entire family was separated, most of them murdered by Pol Pot’s
Khmer Rouge regime. Only he and his mother survived. As a young man,
he heard the gospel, and one day, as he was being chased by armed “soldiers”,
he dropped to his knees, crying out to the Lord for life. Inexplicably,
the men lowered their guns and walked away, leaving a stunned and grateful
Borin kneeling alone before a powerful and merciful God. Since that
time, Pastor Borin has been a dedicated and bold evangelist.
John
and Pastor Borin met during John’s first visit to Cambodia in
1998. We believe it was a meeting ordained by the Lord, and since that
time, John and Pastor Borin have shared a partnership in the gospel
for the sake of the people of Cambodia.
John’s knowledge of scripture, and his ability to explain it
both in depth as well as on a practical level, combined with Pastor
Borin’s insight into the needs and hearts of the Cambodian people,
have allowed them a special working relationship. Together they have
been involved in village evangelism, church planting, and weekly discipleship
groups for Cambodian men.
Pastor
Borin once told us, after an evangelistic meeting in a local village,
“My heart goes boom-boom for evangelism.” Working with Pastor
Borin does something to our hearts, too! Please pray for this gentle
and humble brother in the Lord, that he would stand fast in the loneliness
and misunderstanding he sometimes faces as a Christian in a Buddhist
nation, and that the Lord would give us many more years of ministry
together in the name of Jesus Christ among the people of Cambodia.

Before he had even thought of being a missionary in Cambodia (or knew
where Cambodia was) John knew the saving power of the gospel. His own
life had been turned around by the Spirit of Christ and the compelling
power of His words, and John often sought to bring that same life giving
message to anyone who would receive it: a fellow employee, a family
member in crisis, a drunk in a back alley, or a friend watching his
marriage slowly disintegrate.
